If you’re interested in taking a gap year, big and important decisions lie ahead. A gap year is something to be designed and entered into thoughtfully, not hastily, haphazardly, or without careful planning. While a gap year is a terrific time to push yourself, get out of your comfort zone, and explore new places, cultures, and activities, your gap year experience must be a good fit for you. Gap years are not one-size-fits-all. And, while gap year opportunities are endless (and it’s easy to become overwhelmed while researching programs and options!), it is vital to have clear goals, structured plans, and an organized timeline.
In addition to figuring out where to go, what to do, and when to do it, students embarking on gap years need to consider finances and fundraising and often need to make important decisions about flights, insurance, visas, passports, vaccinations, health, and safety. It’s a lot to think about, and it takes a lot of work, but we are here to help!
We begin our counseling process with a free, no-obligation consultation. We’ll ask you and your parents to complete a detailed preliminary questionnaire, which asks some specific questions and some general questions about your goals, your interests and passions, your tolerance for risk-taking and adventure, your foreign language skills, etc. We’ll review the questionnaire with you and your parents, and if you decide to work with us, we’ll begin researching and customizing your gap year right away.
